Lightspeed on Capitol Hill: Helping RV Dealers Drive Savings Through New Legislation
Earlier this summer, I had the privilege of representing Lightspeed and the broader RV industry in Washington, D.C. as part of the RV Industry Association’s 2025 Move America Week. This annual gathering of industry leaders, lawmakers, and advocacy teams is always impactful—but this year was particularly special. After years of effort, a key legislative win is now official: RV dealers can once again deduct the interest paid on financed inventory, thanks to newly passed federal legislation.
This change is more than symbolic—it’s a game-changer for RV dealers across the country.
Why This Matters for Dealers
For years, RV dealers have faced a financial disadvantage when it came to floor plan interest. Unlike auto dealers, RV retailers—especially those selling towable units—were excluded from deducting the interest they pay to keep inventory on their lots. That gap put pressure on margins and made it harder for dealers to maintain a healthy range of products for customers.
Thanks to the new legislation, that’s no longer the case. Dealers are now back on a level playing field.
“With this bill in place, we expect to save upwards of $1,500,000 plus annually in interest expenses,” said Brett Parris, owner of Parris RV and a longtime Lightspeed customer. “That money goes straight back into the business—supporting jobs, expanding inventory, and improving the customer experience.”

Lightspeed Advocacy in Action
During Move America Week, I joined dozens of other advocates in face-to-face meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
These meetings were the result of months of coordination and effort by the RVIA, and I was proud to be a voice on behalf of dealers and partners across the industry.
A major focus of our conversations was the need to restore tax parity for RV dealers—highlighting the real-world consequences of the prior exclusion and pushing for the common-sense fix that ultimately made it into law. The response from lawmakers was encouraging, and the passage of this provision shows what’s possible when industry and government work together.
Looking Ahead
This is a major win, but it’s only the beginning. With more policy efforts on the horizon—ranging from tariff reform to infrastructure investments—Lightspeed remains committed to being a strong advocate for the RV community.
Whether its helping dealers streamline their operations with smarter technology or working to ease regulatory burdens, we’re here to support the long-term growth of the industry.
